Typical ingredients of the melomakarono are flour or semolina, sugar, orange zest and/or fresh juice, cognac (or similar beverage), cinnamon and olive oil. During rolling they are often filled with ground walnuts. Immediately after baking, they are immersed for a few seconds in cold syrup made of honey and sugar dissolved in water. Finally, they are decorated with ground, as well as bigger pieces of walnut. Dark chocolate-covered melomakarona are also a more recent variation of the traditional recipe.
Materials 3 cups oil 1/2 cup fresh orange juice A little salt 1 cup sugar 9 cups flour for all uses
1/2 cup of cognac 2 teaspoons of baking powder 1 teaspoon of soda 100 g walnuts 1 tbsp. cinammon powder Zest of 3 oranges Syrup
2 cups sugar 1 cup water
1 tbsp honey
Implementation
Start the recipe by making the syrup because it has to cool to get the melomacarona hot as you get out of the oven! Put all the ingredients in a saucepan, except honey. Once it is boiled, take it off for two minutes. Here you throw the honey stirring and let it cool down and start the dough! Beat the sugar first with the oil in a bowl, dissolve the sugar. And then add all the other fluids. Put all the other materials except walnuts and mix with a wooden spoon for a little while to mix all the ingredients! Bake at 180 degrees for 20 minutes in a preheated oven! CAUTION!!! They do not want a lot of shuffling time because all their oil will come out and the dough will spoil! And do not use a mixer! Once syrups come out in the cold syrup and sprinkle with coarse nuts!
